Why I Built UpStart Business Solutions
I didn’t start out trying to build a platform or a brand. I started out trying to make sense of what I kept seeing.
As a CPA, I worked with a lot of small business owners who were doing everything they were told to do. They hired an accountant. They kept their books. They filed their taxes. On paper, they were “doing it right.”
But in real life, most of them felt stressed, unsure, and behind.
They worked long hours. Revenue was coming in. And yet they couldn’t answer basic questions with confidence.
Why does cash feel tight when sales are up?
Which clients are actually profitable?
Can I afford to hire?
Why does tax season feel like a surprise every year?
The answers usually weren’t complicated. They just weren’t visible.
Traditional accounting is built to record the past. It’s not built to help owners make decisions in real time.
Reports arrive weeks later. Conversations focus on compliance. By the time an issue shows up on paper, the damage is already done.
I kept thinking: this isn’t a discipline problem. It’s a systems problem.
Owners weren’t failing because they didn’t care or didn’t work hard enough. They were failing because they were operating without clear, timely information. They were driving a business forward while only being allowed to look in the rearview mirror.
That disconnect bothered me.
So I started rethinking how accounting should actually work for a small business. Not how it’s always been done, but how it should be done if the goal is clarity, control, and better decisions.
That’s what led to UpStart.
UpStart Business Solutions was built around a simple idea: business owners deserve to know what’s happening now, not months later. They deserve clear answers, not jargon. And they deserve systems that make the business easier to run, not harder.

When I write, I’m writing for the owner who feels like they’re always working but never quite ahead. The one who suspects the numbers are trying to tell them something but can’t hear it clearly. The one who wants straight answers without being talked down to.
UpStart exists because too many smart people were being left in the dark by systems that were never designed for them in the first place.
My goal is simple: replace guesswork with clarity, and help business owners lead with confidence.
